Educational Resource Hub

This crowd-sourced database of educational resources is meant to encompass any tools relevant to people working in the climate and health space. This might include submissions by the content authors themselves, or simply recommendations from community members for resources they have found helpful. This collection includes only links directing users to existing resources - it is not meant to house or archive content.

Keep in mind, this is a crowd-sourced database. CAFE does not verify the quality nor endorse the use of any materials included in this database. Make sure to follow the terms of use and attribution requirements specific to each resource. If you have created or used sources that would be relevant to the community of practice, please add it to the database by entering it in the submission form below.

Three-part webinar series designed for faculty and sponsored programs/ research development personnel at institutions building research and research training capacity. During the webinars, we will share suggestions for navigating the process of seeking NIH funding. You will also learn considerations for determining research idea and grant writing readiness, selecting opportunities to apply for, effectively writing your grant application and seeking appropriate feedback. See below for more on the topics covered in each webinar.

Reproducibility is an integral part of high-quality research, and this is the case for computational work as well. In bioinformatics, good reproducible work is critical for result interpretation, code sharing and project collaboration. This hands-on workshop will instruct participants on several best practices for reproducible research in Bioinformatics, and introduce the use of RMarkdown, Git version control and Github. To attend this workshop, working knowledge of R or completion of the Introduction to R workshop is required.

This training course, developed by the CDC, CDC Foundation, and NORC at the University of Chicago, is designed for any public health professional working in a state, tribal, local, or territorial health department. It focuses on ways climate change impacts health and how to integrate climate change considerations into existing public health work.

This training is divided into four modules, which include an introduction to climate and health, approaches for integrating climate change into health department activities, tools and examples to help health departments build climate resilience, and links to existing resources for more information.

Who this course is aimed at

The most daunting global health issues right now are the result of interconnected crises. In this course, we highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to health data science. It is intended for front-line clinicians and public health practitioners, as well as computer scientists, engineers and social scientists, whose goal is to understand health and disease better using digital data captured in the process of care.

We highly recommend that this course be taken as part of a team consisting of clinicians and computer scientists or engineers. Learners from the healthcare sector are likely to have difficulties with the programming aspect while the computer scientists and engineers will not be familiar with the clinical context of the exercises and workshops.

This class provides a series of Python programming exercises intended to explore the use of numerical modeling in the Earth system and climate sciences. The scientific background for these models is presented in a companion class, Global Warming I: The Science and Modeling of Climate Change. This class assumes that you are new to Python programming (and this is indeed a great way to learn Python!), but that you will be able to pick up an elementary knowledge of Python syntax from another class or from on-line tutorials.

This course will explore the concepts driving current food production science (population growth, urbanization, emerging affluence, resource constraints, and underlying biological limits) with the main focus on livestock production. Each of the major food animal species (dairy, swine, beef, and poultry) will be covered in terms of their universal life cycles, constraints to production and emerging societal issues.

This course challenges you to consider how one might lift societies out of poverty while also mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. We explore the inherent complexity of developing country governments wanting to grow their economies in a climate-friendly way. You will be introduced to an approach with which to address this challenge. The approach consists of a facilitated process whereby academic researchers and high-level influential actors within society co-produce knowledge. You will track this process in four Latin American countries - Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and South Africa. You will hear from various professionals about their contexts and the different challenges and opportunities the process includes.

Crowd-Sourced Climate Change and Health Educational Resources Collection Submission Form

Do you have a resource you’d like to share with the community in this educational resource collection? Please fill out the submission form below.

Your entry will be checked to ensure the content is appropriate, but will not be assessed for accuracy or completeness, and no other quality checks will be done.

If you have a dataset you’d like to share with the community, think about posting it to the CAFE collection on Dataverse!

Please fill out the form to add a resource you think might be helpful for the climate change and health community of practice.

The type of resources that should be shared here are one of the following:

  • Book or reference text (e.g. textbook or guidebook on best practices or other essential knowledge)
  • Code repository (e.g. a GitHub code bank of an existing analysis)
  • Online code tutorial or vignette (e.g. a walkthrough of specific code or methods with examples and explanations)
  • Online course (e.g. a series of learning objectives with content and assessment)
  • Video or recorded webinar (e.g. educational resources presented in video format)
Your name will NOT be posted online or shared. We are asking in case we need to follow up with you about any details related to this resource.
Your email will NOT be posted online or shared. We are asking in case we need to follow up with you about any details related to this resource.
If you are unsure which option to select, please see examples of each of the following resource types shown to the left. If you believe that your resource encompasses more than one type, please just select the single option you think fits best.
Please select up to 3 options below.
These will be used as search terms to help users find this item so please be descriptive and use as many as you'd like. Key words could be relevant to specific climate and health topic areas (e.g. extreme heat, wildfire), the details of the approaches used in the tutorial (e.g. raster to polygon aggregation, machine learning), or the specific professional skill (e.g. grant writing, manuscript drafting tips).
Select all that apply.
