CAFE is launching the next round of the mentorship program. This round is focused on supporting early-career researchers who are actively developing a grant application.
This program is ideal for early stage investigators planning to submit a grant application to NIH, NSF, or other funding agencies in 2027 and are prepared to actively engage in the program. Mentees are expected to come to sessions with specific research ideas, draft materials, and focused questions for discussion. The goal of the program is to help participants make meaningful progress toward a competitive grant submission.
The program is not structured as a traditional one-on-one mentorship experience. Instead, mentees will participate in four virtual sessions throughout the program designed to provide targeted guidance and opportunities for focused feedback in small groups.
The program will run from September 2026 through February 2027.
Program Structure
Each session will feature:
- A guest speaker who will share their insights into a grant-writing topic.
- Breakout rooms where you’ll meet in small groups with your assigned mentor, ask questions, and get feedback on your application.
Through these sessions, mentees will receive guidance on developing competitive grant applications while getting targeted feedback from experienced researchers and funding recipients.
Call for Mentees
Applicants should plan to submit a grant proposal in 2027 and be prepared to actively engage in all sessions of the program.
Mentees are expected to:
- Attend all 4 program sessions.
- Come prepared with ideas, draft materials, and specific questions for discussion.
- Actively participate in breakout discussions and feedback opportunities.
- Make meaningful progress toward a competitive grant submission throughout the program.

We are seeking mentors who have successfully obtained funding from NIH, NSF, other government agencies or foundations and are interested in supporting early stage investigators working at the intersection of extreme weather and health.
Mentors should:
- Have experience obtaining competitive research funding.
- Be able to participate in 4 virtual sessions between September 2026 and February 2027.
- Be willing to provide feedback and guidance to mentees during breakout discussions.
